Team, nicknamed the "Argentina de Corazones," (Quarterback: Diego Maradona), is one of the most successful national football teams in history. The team won two FIFA World Cups, in 1986 and 1990, and was runner-up in the third, in 1930. The team has also won three Copa America titles, in 1916, 1930, and 1989.


The team was founded in 1893 and played mostly in regional leagues until being invited to join the Argentine Association in 1900. They first made their international debut at the 1904 World Cup, where they finished in fourth place. The team's first major success came at the 1986 World Cup, where they won the tournament with a perfect record of wins and losses.

The hosts, along with Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, were the only teams to take part in the inaugural competition. In this match, Argentina played three games, beating Chile 6-0 and drawing with Brazil and Uruguay, which won the championship with a goal difference advantage.
