Portugal national football team is one of the most successful teams in the world. It has won a total of eight European Championships, including three consecutive titles from the 1991-1993 seasons. The team is also one of the five teams to have won the FIFA World Cup, doing so in a final match against Germany in 2016.

The Portuguese national team was founded in 1916, and quickly established itself as one of Europe's best teams. The team won its first major title in 1971, when it won the European Championship. The team went on to win three more European Championships (in 1980, 1984, and 1986), and one World Cup (in 2010). Portugal's most recent title came in 2016, when it won the FIFA World Cup against Argentina.

The current captain of the Portugal national team is Cristiano Ronaldo.

• Portugal national football team

The first international football match was played on November 9th, 1872 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Later that year, the first FIFA World Cup took place in Paris, France. Other countries began to take football seriously and started forming national football teams. In response, Portugal formed its national team in 1904, making it one of the older countries to do so. After a few unsuccessful tries at forming a national team, the Portuguese Football Federation finally managed to complete a national championship with the creation of the 'Sporting Lisbon' team. The national team gained a positive reputation for its daring and skill. In 1932, Portugal won the first European Championship by defeating Hungary 3-2 in the final. The national stadium, Estadio Nacional in Santiago, hosted the 1962 World Cup final between Italy and Germany; Italy won 4-3 after extra time.

Portugal competed in its first FIFA World Cup in 1966 in England and beat North Korea in a Group Stage match before being eliminated by Soviet Union. They then reached the quarterfinals where they were eliminated by eventual champions Brazil. The team also reached the quarterfinals of another world cup that year- this time held in France. The national team is one of only two European teams (along with Scotland) without a loss since 1925. After finishing third at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the team became only the fifth country to win back to back tournaments. The national team has been ranked No 111 in the world by FIFA; they were also ranked 13th in 2015 and 14th in 2016 according to the same ranking system.

Portugal's nationwide support and excellent players have made them one of the most successful teams in world football. In major competitions such as the World Cup and European Championships, they have shown exceptional skill and determination to become champions. Their achievements have helped make them one of Europe's most favorite teams among fans of all ages. As one of the leading nations in world football, Portugal shows how important it is to devote time and effort into developing your skills as a footballer.

• Portugal football club

The Portugal national football team is the current champions of the UEFA European Championship (UEFA Euro 2016). The current national team captain is Cristiano Ronaldo, who also holds the team record for the most caps and goals scored by the national team. Portugal's FIFARank is 9.

In the 2018 World Cup, Portugal was in Group B with Spain, Morocco and Iran. In the opening match on June 15, Portugal faced Spain in a 3-3 draw with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a hat-trick. Ronaldo broke Puskas' record by scoring the only goal in the 1-0 win over Morocco. On June 25, Portugal played against the Iranian team in the last game of the group stage. The two sides drew 1-1. The Portuguese team advanced to the knockout stage as the runner-up in the group, second only to the Spanish team. On June 30, Portugal were eliminated 2-1 by Uruguay in the round of 16.

For the Portuguese, football has always been a religion. However, the Portuguese national football team, founded in 1914, was not always successful. Great strides have been made over the decades, culminating in an even stronger squad of legendary players such as Eusebio, Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo.

• Portugal national rugby team.

At the 2007 Rugby World Cup, Portugal entered Group C along with the favorites, the All Blacks, Italy, Romania and Scotland. Portugal's highlights included preventing Italy from gaining extra points, attempting a game against the All Blacks and beating Romania before losing 14-10. Unlike Scotland and Romania, they also managed to score in all four games. Portugal has been praised for its dedication and enthusiasm [citation needed] and for being the only amateur team to make it to the World Cup.

In 2006, it was announced that Portugal would receive a grant from the IRB to help them develop rugby to a Tier 2 standard. Few details have been released so far about how the money will be spent, but it is hoped that it will ensure rugby in Portugal can be taken to the next level. In 2006, the first IRB Nations Cup was held in Lisbon. Portugal, Russia, Argentina A and Italy A participated. This is expected to become an annual event and another medium in which the Portuguese national team can develop their skills.
